Why Writing? ✍️

No, writers can’t cure cancer, or even the common cold, but they can sometimes offer services beyond measure for those when they need it most.

Writers can listen to those that need an ear to bend; someone to listen to every last detail & feel it along with them, the sorrows, the joys, the fears & isolation. The gifts of time, attention & empathy that a writer can give are something one doesn’t realize the importance of until those gifts are gone.

Writers can lend a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves. Reasearching, documenting & shining a light on something once hidden or unheard of in the mainstream, a writer can enable a dialogue for discussion & create a context for change or betterment for others.

Writers can help those needing to find the words to express themselves & tell their own stories. Helping organize the thoughts that tumble out in a crazed, often incoherent rush of emotion is something a writer can do for someone. When working together to tell a person’s story or point of view, writers enable their partners the ability to share their experiences & knowledge without fear of reprisal for lacking that particular writing ability that writers are blessed to possess.

Writers can cheer up those that are at a low point in their lives by telling a tale that can take the reader away from the pain or monotany of everyday life, if even for a little while. Time travel, great journeys, even a “How To” manual can set the mind on fire with ways of making the impossible possible.

Writers can see things that others might miss, in ways that they may not be able to see for themselves. By turning a situation around and offering it from multiple viewpoints, writers can offer a critical & more thorough view of a subject than a cursory first glance or a biased & manipulated piece allows.

Writers can paint a picture with words. Describing it all or leaving just enough to let the reader’s imagination fill in the blanks, thereby allowing the reader to own the story and relate on yet another level that the writer themselves didn’t even know existed.

And the best part is: Writers, with all these abilities & talents, can be anyone at anytime and at any place. Just pick up a pen & begin.
